Auction of a Student-Built House

Cash Realty & Auctions will auction a student-built modular home on Friday, June 12 at 9:30 a.m.  The three bedroom, two bathroom, 1,248 square-foot ranch home was built by the high school students enrolled in Erie 1 BOCES building trades program.

The students built the home as part of hands-on learning experience that Erie 1 BOCES offers. The house has been inspected and meets building code.

Chris Burgio, instructor at Erie 1 BOCES Harkness Career & Technical Center, is eager for the students to see the culmination of their project on auction day.

“The students work very hard to build these houses. This project not only helps the students learn, but it also gives them a sense of pride when their hard work is admired by eager bidders,” voiced Burgio.

This is the fourteenth year that auctioneer, Cash Cunningham, has auctioned the modular homes on behalf of Erie 1 BOCES. “This is a wonderful opportunity to buy a bargain home while supporting the BOCES student education and ensuring the continuation of this wonderful program. This began with a grant from the Wendt Foundation to buy materials so the students could build a home. Through 14 years of successful auctions, this program has been self-funding and the quality of the homes gets better each year,” Cunningham said.

Proceeds of the sale will go towards buying materials to continue the modular home project for students in following years.
