Forest Lawn and the War of 1812

Forest Lawn and the War of 1812

Margaret St. John moved to the frontier village of Buffalo in 1810 with her husband, who was killed in 1813, leaving her a widow with nine children. When British troops began to burn the village on December 30, 1813, she refused to flee, bravely demanding of British officers that they save her home and family. When the siege ended, hers was the only house still standing.

Come learn about this brave woman and other permanent residents of Forest Lawn who played a role in the War of 1812, at Forest Lawn's final Sunday In The Cemetery lecture of the 2010-2011 season.  It takes place on Sunday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the historic Forest Lawn chapel.

Presenter Patrick Kavanagh, Forest Lawn Historian and Buffalo history scholar, will discuss the role of some of the cemetery’s permanent residents in the War of 1812, as well as the importance of nearby neighborhoods during that time.

The Park School to be honored by Women and Childrens Hospital of Buffalo

The Park School was chosen this year to create works of art for Women and Childrens Hospital of Buffalo.  Our talanted artists and their families will be honored at a reception at the hospital on March 26, 2011.  This WCHOB program is a great way to connect to young people and families who are served by the hospital and the community at large.
