Weekend Highlights!

A quick look at what's going on around Amherst this weekend. We have the Pumpkin Run 5k Run & Family Walk this Saturday starting at 10:30am, to benefit the at-risk and disadvantaged children served by Gateway-Longview. Click on the link for a full list of details.

High School Varsity Football ends this weekend, (the regular season) you might just see Williamsville South take it all the way! Get out and support your favorite football team.

Annunciation School to Host Ice Cream Social & Book Fair

Annunciation School, 7580 Clinton St., Elma, will host an Ice Cream Social & All American Book Fair from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, in the school. The event is open to students and families. Members of the community who are interested in learning more about the school and parish are also encouraged to attend.

Books will be available for sale, as well as delicious ice cream sundaes for only $1. There will also be a pumpkin decorating contest, and children are invited to wear their Halloween costumes. Pumpkins entered in the contest should be decorated at home. If you would like to light up your pumpkin, please use a non-flammable light source.

Holiday Dinner Dance Featuring Jack Civiletto & The Pyramid Band to Benefit Pet Connection

Tickets are now available for a Holiday Concert/Dinner Dance featuring Jack Civiletto & The Pyramid Band that will take place from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, December 4, at the Hearthstone Manor, 333 Dick Road, Depew. Proceeds from the event will benefit Pet Connection Programs Inc., a special care shelter for dogs and cats located in Marilla.

Fall Family Fest

The Amherst Youth & Recreation Department Family Room Program will be hosting its 18th Annual "Fall Family Fest" featuring a show by "Mama Earth & the Kitchen Band" along with special guests “Buzz & Woody” on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Harlem Road Community Center Auditorium, 4255 Harlem Road in Amherst.  Advance general admission tickets are available and include choice of showtime, 10:30am or 11:30am.  Doors open at 10:00am.

The event includes appearances by the Super Heroes and Princesses. It features a raffle, silent auction and theme basket auction along with a pizza and bake sale.  Ticket price also includes face painting, crafts and gym activities for the children.  All proceeds benefit Amherst Youth & Recreation Department’s Family Room and Parent Resource Center.

Pet Connection Announces Additional Events During October

Pet Connection Programs Inc., a special care shelter for dogs and cats located in Marilla, has added some new special events to its October calendar.

From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. October 2 and 3, Pet Connection volunteers will be participating in the Cradle Beach Harvest Festival in Angola, selling mini and large totes filled with pet surprises. Come out and see the puppies!

And, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. October 2, volunteers will be grilling up hot dogs and hamburgers at the Tractor Supply Co., 4484 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg. The store is having a huge pet food sale, so please stop by and check it out.

Revolutionary War Returns to Old Fort Niagara

The American Revolution returns to Old Fort Niagara and American and British forces are vying for your support. Old Fort Niagara hosts a Revolutionary War Encampment on October 9 & 10.

Beginning at 10am both days, Revolutionary War re-enactors will portray both British and American forces, offering musket and artillery demonstrations throughout the day. At 1pm each day, kids and their parents will be recruited for a mock battle by either the Patriots or the British forces.

Pet Connection Announces October Events

Pet Connection Programs Inc., a special care shelter for dogs and cats located in Marilla, will be participating in several special events during the month of October.

Pet totes and other goodies will be available for sale from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. October 2 and 16 in the Walden Galleria in Cheektowaga, on the first floor near Sears. Volunteers will also be at the Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. October 30.
