Canterbury Woods Achieves Deficiency-Free Survey from New York State

Canterbury Woods, Western New York’s premier life care community, announced that it has received a deficiency-free survey from the New York State Department of Health for its Oxford Village skilled nursing unit, placing it in select company among nursing homes across the state.

Each year, the Department of Health surveys all nursing homes in New York State on more than 180 regulatory and quality standards, including administration, quality of care, resident rights and others. The standards must be met for each resident who resides in a nursing home’s care. For each standard in which a nursing home is found to be deficient, it will receive a citation. Less than eight percent of nursing homes in New York State achieve a deficiency-free survey.

“Being entrusted with an individual’s care is a responsibility that we take to heart,” said Isadore A. DeMarco, administrator of the Oxford Village site. “The culture at Canterbury Woods is completely built around a commitment to our residents and their care.” Oxford Village provides assisted living and skilled nursing services, including restorative care, rehabilitation services and memory care. Along with Oxford Village, the Canterbury Woods community also includes the Lexington Village patio homes, independent and assisted living apartments, all located on a beautiful park-like campus.

Residents at Canterbury Woods enjoy compassionate care and fantastic amenities, including gourmet dining, recreation and educational activities and a variety of social, cultural and entertainment events.

“Operationally and philosophically, we want Canterbury Woods to continue to set the standard for retirement living and senior care in our community,” said Rob Wallace, president and CEO, Canterbury Woods. “This achievement is a testament to how everyone across our entire operation – from nursing personnel to housekeeping staff to culinary personnel and beyond - works each and every day to maintain a standard of quality for our residents.”

Opened in 1999, Canterbury Woods provides life care to seniors age 62 and older with assured access to assisted living, skilled nursing and rehabilitative services. The unique retirement lifestyle at Canterbury Woods gives residents the opportunity to age in place in an environment of their choosing. Seniors select a residence for their current lifestyle, and gain the ability to change their level of care – at no additional cost – should the need arise.

Canterbury Woods was the first senior living community in Western New York to offer a life care continuum and is sponsored by Episcopal Church Home & Affiliates, which has been providing healthcare and related services to the Western New York community since 1858.
