Come See the Cars — and the Stars — at the 2015 Buffalo Auto Show

 

The Buffalo Auto Show, Western New York’s premier new vehicle automotive event, will take place from Feb. 5-8 at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center. In addition to seeing every brand new car sold in WNY on display, attendees will have a chance to meet and obtain autographs from some of Buffalo greatest star athletes!

Buffalo Bandits Ryan Benesch, Dhane Smith and Brandon Goodwin, along with some members of the Buffalo Bandettes, will visit the Buffalo Auto Show from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, for a free autograph session. Benesch and Smith are among the team’s leading scorers this year, while Goodwin is playing in his first NLL season.

The Super Bowl is America’s most watched national sporting event, and on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 1, there will be lots of game day socializing that may include drinking. That’s why The Resource Training Center of Amherst, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and local law enforcement officials are urging football fans to choose sides now: drinking OR driving. If you plan on drinking on Super Bowl Sunday, these organizations encourage you to designate a sober driver to get you home safely!

The new Winter Market on Hertel, housed in The Pasta Peddler/Blackbird Sweets location at 1547 Hertel Ave. in Buffalo, continues from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24. The market will run every Saturday through early April.

In addition to The Pasta Peddler and Blackbird Sweets, vendors taking part in the market on a full 20-week schedule include Alpine Made/First Light Farm & Creamery, Biscotti for Everybotti, Plato Dale Farm, Prudom Farms, Public Espresso & Coffee/BreadHive Worker Cooperative Bakery and White Cow Dairy! Participating on a 10-week rotating schedule are JJ’s Jams, Sandy’s Dandies, Chateau Buffalo, Fetch! Dog Treats and T-Meadow Farm.

Sports Collectors Expo to Feature 17 Well-known Athletes

 

Seventeen stars from the NFL, NHL and Major League Baseball are scheduled to appear from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Sports Collectors Expo. The event is set to take place at Batavia Downs Gaming, located at 8315 Park Road, Batavia.

NFL greats scheduled to appear include former Buffalo Bills Marv Levy, Billy Shaw, Vince Ferragamo and Ken Jones. Other NFL greats including Don Maynard, Larry Brown, George Rogers, Jack Youngblood, Tom Mack and Rocky Bleier are also on the schedule. Levy, Shaw, Maynard, Youngblood and Mack are all members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Buffalo, NY- Beechwood Continuing Care and the Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo present a special screening of the new documentary THE AGE OF LOVE on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 1:00pm in the Center for the Arts Screening Room. Admission is free and seating is limited.

Catholic Charities Volunteers from Erie County Gather for First 2015 Appeal Workshop

About 50 parish and community volunteers, local clergy and lay leaders, and staff of Catholic Charities of Buffalo, gathered Wednesday, Jan. 15 for a  volunteer training workshop to help kick off the 2015 Appeal for Catholic Charities in Erie County.

The event was held at Christ the King Seminary on Knox Road in East Aurora in preparation for the 91st annual campaign, which carries a goal of $10.9 million and officially began Jan. 7. The patron saint for the 2015 Appeal is Saint Francis of Assisi.

Working under the theme “Find Good Within,” Appeal volunteers from Erie County will begin reaching out to individuals and businesses in the community to encourage their support of the 2015 Appeal, which helps fund Catholic Charities’ 70 myriad programs across 61 sites in Western New York, along with a number of ministries through the Bishop’s Fund for the Faith.

Dog Ears Bookstore to Offer New Writers’ Club

 

A Writers’ Club for wordsmiths interested in all genres will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Dog Ears Bookstore and continue through March 3. Sessions will begin at 6:30 p.m. each week, and the cost for the six-week session is $75.

Leading the club will be John Schreier, a retired English instructor who taught for over 35 years in the West Seneca School District and at Trocaire College. He is an accomplished author with many published pieces including several 3M Writer’s Group Anthologies and short stories in national and local publications.
