East Aurora Chamber of Commerce Plans an Event-filled Year

 

The Greater East Aurora Chamber of Commerce has several business and family friendly events scheduled throughout 2015, including a new health-focused event that will take place June 20 at the village’s Healthy Zone Ice Rink. Founded in 1945, the chamber represents 500-plus members in East Aurora and surrounding communities.

Kicking off the fun is the new Health Live — Jump Into the Healthy Zone event slated from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the ice rink. An interactive family wellness event, Health Live will feature local health, wellness, fitness and beauty businesses and organizations, a wide variety of activities for all ages, and an inflatable obstacle course!

Indoor Yard Sale to Benefit Pet Connection Programs Inc.

 

Pet Connection Programs Inc., a maternity and special care animal shelter located in Marilla, will host an indoor yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Variety Club Banquet Hall, 6114 Broadway, Lancaster. For every $5 spent at the yard sale, shoppers will receive a chance to win a wonderful prize.

A donation drop-off will take place at the yard sale location from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 24. Items should be new or gently used; please, no electronics, broken, dirty or rusty items.

Join Explore Buffalo for a tour of the only boathouse designed by Frank Lloyd Wright! Originally designed by Wright in 1905 for the University of Wisconsin, the Boathouse was never built until its construction in 2007 in Buffalo along the shore of the Black Rock Channel. This was one of Wright’s favorite designs, as evidenced by his inclusion of the Boathouse in his now famous Wasmuth Portfolio.

Catholic Charities Appeal Week 2015 Opens with $7.43 Million Raised  Toward $10.9 Million Goal

The Most Reverend Richard J. Malone, bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo, announced Tuesday, March 24, Catholic Charities’ 91st annual Appeal has raised $7,432,587.16 to date, representing 68 percent of the $10.9 million goal. The total includes monies collected and reported by parish volunteers during the opening weekend (March 21-22) of Appeal Week 2015, the period which marks the strongest push for parish donations.

The total reported is more than $500,000 short of where Catholic Charities’ officials and the Appeal leadership team hoped to be after the first Sunday.

Funds raised for Appeal 2015 support Catholic Charities’ 70 programs and services offered across 61 sites throughout the eight counties of Western New York, and the Bishop’s Fund for the Faith, which supports related ministries of the Diocese of Buffalo.

Daemen’s Geppetto Festival to Bring New Life to Art of Puppetry

The artistic talents of puppeteers from across the United States will be showcased in the second annual Geppetto Festival, named after the beloved woodcarver from the children’s classic “Pinocchio,” scheduled for April 15 as part of the Daemen College Academic Festival.

“The Geppetto Festival is intended to share enriching presentations and performances to help bring new life to puppetry,” said Cameron Garrity, festival director. “Whether young or young at heart, the festival will give audiences the chance to explore new avenues of puppetry beyond Sesame Street and other well-known shows.”

Tickets Available for Annual Drums Along the Waterfront Tour of Champions

 

Tickets for the Drums Along the Waterfront Tour of Champions, taking place at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, are now on sale through Ticketmaster.

Drums Along the Waterfront will feature eight of the top drum corps in the world who hold 42 combined Drum Corps International World Championship titles. Scheduled to compete at the event are the Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, Phantom Regiment, Blue Stars, Santa Clara Vanguard, Cavaliers, Bluecoats and Cadets!

Sports Card & Memorabilia Expo Returns to Former Hearthstone Manor Site

 

WNY Sports Card & Memorabilia Expo 15, the area’s largest biannual sports card and memorabilia show with more than 100 tables of merchandise, returns to the Grapevine Banquet Hall (formerly the Hearthstone Manor), 333 Dick Road, Depew, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 29.

Vendor tables will feature new and vintage sports cards, non-sports cards, packs, autographs, game programs, yearbooks, pennants, videos, vintage photos and much more. The event will feature local and out-of-state vendors, as well as dealers who are new to this show. Admission is just $3.
