Catholic Charities Celebrates Senior Corps Week, 50th Anniversary of Foster Grandparent Program

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of its Foster Grandparent Program in conjunction with Senior Corps Week May 18-23, Catholic Charities will thank its 96 Foster Grandparent Program volunteers during its “50 and Feeling Fabulous” event May 22 at the Lt. Col. Matt Urban Human Services Center of WNY, 1081 Broadway, Buffalo.  

Senior Corps Week, developed by the Corporation for National and Community Service, spotlights the impact of Senior Corps volunteers on their communities. Catholic Charities Foster Grandparent Program is a program of Service Corps, which is funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

WNY Land Conservancy to Hold Annual Meeting and Reception at Buffalo History Museum

 

The Western New York Land Conservancy is pleased to announce that its 2015 Annual Meeting and Reception to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at the Buffalo History Museum in Delaware Park, Buffalo. The Buffalo History Museum, which is a National Historic Landmark, was built in 1901 for the Pan-American Exposition and is the only surviving permanent structure from the exposition.

Explore Buffalo Announces ‘Twilight Tour of Homes’ Special Event

 

Explore Buffalo and the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site are partnering to offer a special Twilight Tour of Homes event from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 19. This tour will take  you inside some of the spectacular homes in the Delaware Avenue and Oakland Place neighborhood. 

This is a go-at-your-own-pace walking tour that includes a souvenir guide booklet that will serve as your ticket and direct you to participating homes. Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site and Explore Buffalo guides will await your visit and share details about the architecture and history of the unique structures on the tour.

Memorial Day Events to Highlight Annunciation Cemetery

 

A Memorial Day Mass at 9 a.m. Monday, May 25, in the Church of the Annunciation in Elma will be followed by services at Annunciation Cemetery, which dates back to 1906.

The Church of the Annunciation is located at 7580 Clinton St. The 100-plus-year-old cemetery is located on the opposite side of Clinton Street, behind the parish offices.

The public is invited to attend the Memorial Day Mass, to be followed by a procession to the cemetery for a special blessing by Father Eugene Ulrich, pastor of Annunciation. A light breakfast in Annunciation’s Selbert Hall, hosted by Barb Windnagle, will conclude the remembrance.

North Amherst Banquet Hall to Host Community Events

 

A craft show, sportsman’s raffle and Father’s Day pancake breakfast are among the upcoming events planned at the North Amherst Banquet Hall, 2200 Tonawanda Creek Road, Amherst. All events are open to the public.

The craft show, sponsored by Traveling Vendors, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 30. The event boasts approximately 40 vendors and a basket auction featuring items donated by the show’s vendors. Basket winners do not need to be present to win, and proceeds from the event will benefit Special Spaces Buffalo. Admission is free!
