Land Conservancy to Present Findings from the Niagara Escarpment Legacy Project

 

The Western New York Land Conservancy will present important findings from the Niagara Escarpment Legacy Project from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Pekin Fire Hall, 3024 Upper Mountain Road, Sanborn. The presentation is the culmination of over a year of work and is part of the Land Conservancy’s efforts to increase awareness of the importance of the escarpment, and also to find ways to protect its important resources.

Daemen Wins Sustainability Award for Environmentally-Friendly Efforts

Daemen College has been presented a Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Environmental Stewardship from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) New York Upstate Chapter in honor of its campus-wide green initiatives.

Daemen President Gary A. Olson accepted the award on behalf of the college from Aliesa Adelman, who serves on the chapter’s board of directors, at a presentation held April 22 in the college’s Research and Information Commons. Also in attendance was Dr. Brenda Young, chair of the global and local sustainability program at Daemen.

“This honor underscores Daemen’s steadfast dedication and support of campus sustainability and green initiatives that are important to improving our environment,” said Olson. “We are proud of the culture of sustainability that exists at Daemen and excited to have the collaborative efforts of our faculty, staff and students recognized by the USGBC.”

Bilingual Birdwalk to Take Place at Forest Lawn Cemetery

The Buffalo Audubon Society and the Western New York Land Conservancy will host their first ever bilingual birdwalk – offered in both Spanish and English – at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo. The event will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 10, and is free and open to the public. Participants should meet just inside the main entrance of the cemetery at Delaware and Delavan.

Western New York Land Conservancy to Hold Annual Meeting and Reception at Buffalo Yacht Club

 

The Western New York Land Conservancy is very pleased to announce the 2014 Annual Meeting and Reception to be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 16, at the Buffalo Yacht Club at the foot of Porter Avenue in Buffalo. The historic building is right on Lake Erie, and the spectacular second floor dining area and outdoor patio boast views of passing sail boats and the summer sunset.

Video Highlights Land Conservancy’s Stella Niagara Preserve Efforts

 

The Western New York Land Conservancy’s efforts to create the Stella Niagara Preserve on the Niagara River in Lewiston are featured in a new video produced by WGRZ-TV. The video is part of the “2 The Outdoors” series and originally aired on Dec. 15. 

The Western New York Land Conservancy is currently in the process of raising funds to purchase 29 acres of pristine land along the lower Niagara River, with the intent to make it a preserve that will be open to the public.
