Canterbury Woods Begins $1.5 Million Renovation Project

Work at Oxford Village unit continues series of investments in recent years

Since opening its doors 15 years ago, Canterbury Woods has set the standard for retirement living and senior care in Western New York by continuously investing in the services and environment the community’s residents enjoy. The region’s premier life care community is continuing to build on that legacy with an extensive renovation project at its five star-rated Oxford Village skilled nursing unit.

Work recently began on the $1.5 million project, which will include a new entryway, additional kitchen, dining and activities space, reconfigured administrative areas, and upgraded carpeting, wall coverings and fixtures. The project is expected to be complete by early 2015.

“This project, as with every investment we make, is aimed at updating and modernizing our environment of care for our residents and their families,” said Rob Wallace, president and CEO. “Countless Western New Yorkers have made Canterbury Woods their community of choice – their home. With that trust comes a responsibility to make sure that our facilities remain at the forefront of our industry, which is what our residents expect and deserve.”

Last month, Canterbury Woods announced that Oxford Village received a deficiency-free survey from the New York State Department of Health placing it in select company among nursing homes across the state. Less than eight percent of nursing homes in New York State achieve a deficiency-free survey. Oxford Village provides assisted living and skilled nursing services, including restorative care, rehabilitation services and memory care.

Along with Oxford Village, the Canterbury Woods community also includes the Lexington Village patio homes, independent, and assisted living apartments, all located on a beautiful park-like campus.

The Oxford Village renovations follow in a series of investments made at Canterbury Woods. Over the past three years, the community has invested in electronic health records, a voice-to-voice call bell system, and other technology upgrades, as well as capital projects including a renovation and expansion of its main dining room, which now includes a variety of casual and formal dining options.

“As a life care community, we provide peace of mind that our residents will be cared for, no matter what health needs may arise,” Wallace added. “In doing so, our goal is to develop an environment based on resident-focused relationships and personal interactions, whether in social settings across the community, such as the dining room, pool, and our clubhouse facility, or in providing more bedside care time in our skilled nursing unit.”

Opened in 1999, Canterbury Woods provides life care to seniors age 62 and older with assured access to assisted living, skilled nursing and rehabilitative services. The unique retirement lifestyle at Canterbury Woods gives residents the opportunity to age in place in an environment of their choosing. Seniors select a residence for their current lifestyle, and gain the ability to change their level of care – at no additional cost – should the need arise. Residents at Canterbury Woods enjoy compassionate care and fantastic amenities, including gourmet dining, recreation and educational activities and a variety of social, cultural and entertainment events.

Canterbury Woods was the first senior living community in Western New York to offer a life care continuum and is sponsored by Episcopal Church Home & Affiliates, which has been providing healthcare and related services to the Western New York community since 1858.
