Williamsville East High School today announced its partnership with the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a not-for-profit organization that provides programs and services for injured service members and their families. The two have joined forces to recognize the sacrifices made by those who have served and those that continue to serve in our nation's Armed Forces.

Gronkowski Scores TD as Pats Top Bengals

Foxboro, MA (Sports Network) - Tom Brady threw for three touchdowns as New England dispatched Cincinnati, 38-24, in the season-opener for both clubs from Gillette Stadium.

Brady's third touchdown was to rookie TE Rob Gronkowski who played three years of high school football at Williamsville North.  It came in the fourth quarter to give the Patriots at 38-17 lead.   It was Gronkowski's first regular season NFL touchdown.

Brady, fresh from agreeing on Thursday to a four-year contract extension reportedly worth $72 million, was an efficient 25-of-35 for 258 yards for the Patriots, who are coming off a 10-6 season and first-round playoff loss in 2009.

Coming off a season-ending torn ACL, Wes Welker struck for eight catches for 64 yards and two-first half scores. Randy Moss added five receptions for 59 yards and Fred Taylor gained 71 yards on 14 carries.

Williamsville’s Evening in the Village will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. This year’s event, which celebrates “Main Street America,” will honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a moment of silence at 6 p.m.

Attendees can enjoy complimentary wine tastings from state wineries and food from various street vendors. Many of the shops and restaurants will offer specials and sales.

Three live bands will perform throughout the evening, and Hawk Creek Wildlife Center will have a station set up. Erie County Legislator Edward A. Rath III will meet with residents at the Williamsville Water Mill from 4 to 8 p.m.

In conjunction with the event, the Williamsville Fire Department will hold its annual open house with firehouse tours and demonstrations. There will also be a free trolley up and down Main Street.

Chamber to Host 'Northtowns Networking Night'

The Amherst, Grand Island, Ken-Ton and Tonawanda Chambers’ of Commerce are pleased to announce a joint networking event for their members.  Emedia Studios will sponsor a “Northtowns Networking Night” at their video production facility at 233 Fillmore Ave., Suite 8 in Tonawanda, NY 14150 on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.  This event is free to members of the Amherst, Grand Island, Ken-Ton and Tonawanda Chambers’ of Commerce.

Legislator Rath partners with UNYTS to host blood drive


(Amherst, NY) – Erie County Legislator Edward A. Rath III, R-Amherst, has partnered with Upstate New York Transplant Services to host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at The Northtown Center at Amherst, second floor, 1615 Amherst Manor Drive (the former Pepsi Center).  


“I encourage all residents who are able to attend the blood drive and donate to Upstate New York Transplant Services, which holds several of these drives a month to meet all area residents’ needs,” Legislator Rath said.


90 Year Old Man Gets 17 1/2 Years in Prison for Killing His Wife

BUFFALO, N.Y. - John Bunz, 90 years old, was sentenced to 17 1/2 years in prison on Wednesday morning for killing his 89 year old wife.

Bunz was arrested in March after his wife was killed inside their apartment in the Amberliegh retirement complex on Maple Road in Williamsville.

Prosecutors say Bunz beat his wife, Virginia to death with a hammer.

The couple was married for 68 years and had moved into the retirement home five years ago.
